In light of these moments, 2025

In light of these moments is a series of seven ink drawings of lights, shadows and windows. The series spans the days of the week (though not necessarily in sequence as time begins to blur), with each drawing depicting a different moment of time through the quiet stillness of the shadows cast.

Shown as a part of what hands are for, 2025

As I find myself thrown into the unknown post-graduation, I’m often overwhelmed by the uncertainty that lies again, and with everything I have to do. I find respite through moments and instances of light — shining from and out of windows and reflecting onto idle spaces. They render a sense of calm and familiarity, creating a space where time (and subsequently, myself) slows down. Racing thoughts silence themselves, and eventually reveal the quiet whispers that linger at the back of my mind.

Each drawing depicts a space and window of said comfort, starting from spaces that I’ve visited briefly, gradually moving towards the place I feel the most at ease. As you glance across the seven drawings, three gradually light up, revealing fragments of the sentence “I wonder if this could last a little longer…” — a thought that often surfaces as I walk(ed) through these spaces.Contrary to this, a singular drawing closer to the floor (at a point harder to reach) contains the frantic thoughts, worries and fears that constantly play in mind scribbled in its darkest parts, almost hidden, only revealing itself when one illuminates the surface. Meanwhile, the lighter parts of the drawing remain “empty”/free of words — calm and clear, creating pockets where I am free from these worries, where I can breathe.Through these drawings (spaces made through my hands), I hope to recreate these spaces and carry them with me, almost as an attempt to truly make those moments last a little longer.

Let these quiet thoughts be illuminated in spaces of light.
